I still look for you, even in Google Maps

Once in a while
I'd take my phone out
and search for you
on google maps.

I search for Mattegoda, Kottawa;
in this town
a premordial heartbeat exists
and love is terrific madness.

I switch to satellite view
run through roads, thinking,
this must be the route
you take to drive home.

I watch the paddyfields you pass by,
the thin roads, petti kades,
sal gas junction and every landmark
necessary for quick recall.
I study the roads,
again and again.

I look for
the distance from Nugegoda to Mattegoda;
and it is so small
that it is only the length
between forefinger and thumb
when moving on a touch screen.

You know what?
On maps
we are so close, that,
just by pinching two fingers
you and I can be brought together.

In your absence
I check Google Maps
because you are close
everytime.
